The competitive battle AI competition on Kaggle has officially come to a close, marking the finish line of one of our most demanding competitive engineering sprints to date. 🏁

Over the course of the season, we solved complex memory truncation bugs, combined game-tree heuristics with machine learning policy rankers, and watched our algorithms climb the global ladder against talented engineers from around the world. The final bell has rung, and we have spun down our match evaluation servers.

We finished the contest locking in our strongest ratings: our peak submission (Crustle v104) settled at 615.8, with our secondary setup (Alakazam v109) holding at 583.4, placing our models comfortably in the upper quartile of the final evaluation ladder. 📈 While the leaderboard was intensely competitive at the top, the true prize for our lab was the battle-tested engineering architecture we built along the way. Rather than relying on slow, unconstrained deep reinforcement learning, pairing lightweight tree search with gradient-boosted policy re-ranking gave us sub-second decision speeds and stable behavior under hidden information. The offline ranking pipelines, sub-second decision heuristics, and state management techniques we forged during this challenge are already running inside our broader data science toolkit.

The contest is behind us, but the systems and intuition we developed will power our next generation of projects.
